Change

I did not expect to feel the way I do today. I woke up going through the motions of getting to school like it was just another day. It hit me when I was on TRAX. Today was the last day of class, I'm done. I posted on facebook about it and brushed it aside.

I got to class, took a silly final that the professor gave us all the answers for, word for word, the week before. We ate some food and then my peers started reading quotes, poems and books that helped them express their feelings about ending their masters program. I sat there thinking about what I might say knowing that I wasn't going to say a thing.

Growing up my parents worked to make ends meet for the family of five children. My mom helped deliver new life into the world and my dad helped straighten them out as teenagers after life happened. They knew that sports and the outdoors would be a good part of my development. I "played" soccer as younger kid. My mom had to sew the pockets of my shorts shut because I would just stand in the field with my hands in my pockets watching the ball go around. When I was like 12 I started baseball. I was no good. I ended up playing for three years though. We took first in the league 2 of those years and second the other. I hit the ball into play a total of 3 or 4 times. Baseball touched me. It never happened during a game, it wasn't because I was on a team full of skilled players.

After one of our practices I came over to the side of the field and my dad was talked to the assistant coach. After standing around for a minute I got the jest that my dad had worked with him when he was younger at the juvenile detention center. He turned to me and said something like "Your dad helped me to change my life around." I thought the world of that. He was a great baseball coach and here he is telling me that my dad helped him. I wanted to to make an impact in the lives of others. As I started college I had these experiences in the back of my mind and my goal became a masters degree and a career where I can run into my old clients to hopefully see some improvement in their lives.

As I have gotten older and better educated I have come to realize that he was probably there to work off community service hours in the adult system and you shouldn't base your success on our clients progress.

I sat in class today. I thought about how I saw a old group home client that I worked with like 5 years ago. He is by no means living a stress free life with no struggles. (Who is?) For all I know he isn't making the same choices. Some of the others I worked with are in school or the military and seem to be doing great as well. Anyhow, the thought I had in class is I am in a place where I can impact others lives.

I am also done with my masters degree.

I have met my goals.

Those are finished.

That hit me off guard. I need new goals.

I do not feel like I am any different of a person than when I dropped my athletic cup in the port-a-potty pregame during my little league days but today after my last class session I am done with the goals that I have lived for.

From the mouths of 2nd graders.

Ok peeps I know it has pretty much been a century since I have blogged last! I have just been very busy! Teaching and school takes up most of my time! Good news tho, I am officially finished with UVU! Holla! Teaching is going great! I absolutely love it, love my school, love the people I work with, love my students! One of the best things about my job is listening to all of the awesome things kids say! I have been taking notes of the funny things my students say and thought I would share a few. Please enjoy the following quotes...

::I am sitting at my desk when a students comes to talk to me and sees a half eaten fiber one bar sitting by my computer.
Student: "ugh fiber! Those make your bladder go grrruuuhh" (clenching his stomach)

::Outside at recess, students is on swing yelling to me
Student: "teacher, teacher, I'm sorry but I was swinging so high, and I am sorry but I peed!"
Me: "Oh no buddy, ok stop swinging and we will walk down to the office so you can call home"
Student: gets off swing "a little got in my shoe"

::Several girls come in from recess upset because a boy was stomping on all of their toes, I pull the boy out into the hall to have a chat.
Me: "buddy what was going on at recess? Why were you stomping on toes?"
Student: "I was angry!"
Me: "Why?
Student: "because they were saying..... boys go to Jupiter to..... be stupid"

::Playing Christmas songs while students work, "I Saw Mommy Kissing Santa Clause" comes on...
Student: "you know this is a love song right?"

::Students are writing about a person they would like to invite to Thanksgiving Dinner. Most students choose things like spongebob, mickey mouse, Justin Bieber, blah blah blah...
Me: to student "Oh cool! Why would you want to invite Mitt Romney?"
Student: Shrugs and laughs "I don't know but my parents are gonna love this!"

Thats all I can remember right now, but I am sure there will be more to come :]]

Happy Fathers Day!

Walked down the sidewalk
Staring at your feet
Wishing my steps were longer
So by your sides I could keep

Hold your hand much bigger
Never wanted mine to grow
So I could always feel perfect
Inside your palms just so

No one loves me just like you do
No one knows me just like you do
No one can compare to way my eyes fit in yours
You'll always be my father
And I'll always be your joy

-Chrisette Michele

This is the song my pa and I danced to on my wedding day :]] I love him so very much! He can make anyone laugh, and make everything better. I love you Dad!

Happy Mother's Day

Well, a mother, a real mother is the most wonderful person in the world. She's the angel voice... that bids you good night, kisses you cheek, whispers "sleep tight"

Your mother and mine
your mother and mine
the helping hand that guides you along
whether you're right
whether you're wrong

Your mother and mine
your mother and mine
what makes mothers
all that they are
might as well ask what makes a star

Ask your heart
to tell you her worth
your heart will say
Heaven on Earth
another word for divine
your mother and mine

Spring Break!

Its spring break! And it has been FOR-EV-ER since I have updated my blog, so I will update it now while I have the time :]] Alright, so much has happened since my last post, so just to warn ya there will be a lot of pictures and I will try not to ramble :]]

As most of you know I am in the Elementary Education Program at UVU, I am a second semester junior and am proud to announce that I have received an internship for the following school year! Thats right peeps next year I will be a full time 2nd grade teacher at Butterfield Elementary, I am so stoked. As an intern I will have my own classroom (with no supervising teacher) and will receive half salary. Pretty cool right? It was a nerve racking process, I had to turn in an application and interview with Jordan School District which was pretty intimidating. A huge shout out and thank you are in order to the lovely Carolyn Hirz, my cute Gare, and my family for being so supportive and helpful :]] After I got the call that I got the internship Gare took me to celebrate to my all time fav Olive Garden.

Celebrate!

In other big news Derek is home! He has been gone for like three months on vaca in Europe the little stinker. We were glad to have him home and to be able to spend time with him.

And now for some sad news, I crashed my cute car Bridgett :[[ I was confused getting off the freeway and didn't know where I was going and crashed into the cement barrier. I know, I know, I am an idiot :[[ good think I was the only one involved and for insurance. Bridgett is in the shop gettin fixed, I miss her dearly.
